Before commencement exercises begin for the Class of 2008 at Virginia Commonwealth University, a faculty marshal walks the aisles making last minute arrangements.
One graduate dances through the processional putting feet to the happy face on the mortarboard of the classmate in front of him. They received two of the more than 3,000 degrees conferred during the ceremony.
Nursing graduates hold their own celebration when their degrees are conferred.
