Memphis, Tennessee

Our grandson Max celebrates his ninth birthday in Memphis. I think this is the first year we've missed being there. He and his parents are coming to Richmond toward the end of the month and there will be a second celebration then.

This is sad ... not the dogs drinking water; it was an unseasonably hot day ... but we are at Arts in the Park, a spectacular annual outdoor show in Byrd Park — we usually miss it because we're in Memphis for Max's birthday — and this is the only photograph I shoot.

Once again Sadie patiently waits for me to finish this blog so she can go the bed.

lovely one of sadie.

believe us - you were safe where you were. 6 little boys trapped inside due to crazy weather.

we are still up watching tornado warnings (midtown looks to be in the clear).

I don't think it was sad that you were at the Arts in the Park and only took one picture.

I've done that a hundred times and beaten myself up over it.

One day, as I was snapping a bunch of pics of the family on an outing, the wife mentions she likes it sometimes when I do forget I have a camera with me (or accidentally leave it at home). She says I'm more in the moment and that I seem to enjoy "living" life instead of always "capturing" life.

She's right. She usually is.

Sometimes we need to just enjoy the moment and live our lives.
