Short Pump, Virginia

Sarah views a painting of herself for the first time. Local artist Paul Steinberg set up his easel and did the oil this morning at the Daily Grind. He was planning on starting the piece for a show he has next week at Wyndham Child Development Center. The idea was to finish it as part of the exhibit. But the painting took over and Steinberg found himself finishing it now — and doing a more interpretive, contemporary piece — neither of which he hadn't planned. He will begin another oil later for the show.

From Paul:

"Thanks Bill for telling my story so well. There is the faintest whiff of immortality in the knowledge that anyone who reads this entry will have a brief understanding of a small part of the way I was today."
